SUMMER TECH CAMPS AT SPU
NOTE: Summer Tech Camps at Seattle Pacific University will not be held during this summer of 2024. Please check back in 2025.
Turn interests into career goals and dive into the exciting world of tech! Offered by SPU’s Department of Engineering and Computer Science, SPU’s Summer Tech Camps introduce high school students to game creation, 3D printing, and more.
Space is limited for all camps.
Game Creation Studio
SPU’s Game Creation Studio for Beginners is a one-week summer camp designed for rising ninth–12th graders (as of autumn 2022) interested in learning basic game creation techniques. No coding experience necessary.
- Learn to use GameMaker.
- Create a storyline for a game.
- Learn basic graphic editing of sprites.
- Design your own game.
You will learn basic development techniques using an intuitive game development tool. You will learn more about computer science as a career and the different opportunities available to you as a developer. You will develop a game of your own with help from SPU students and professors. And you will have the chance to present your creations.
Dates: August 8–12, 2022
Time: 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (day camp, no overnight accommodations)
Location: Seattle Pacific University campus
Cost: $625
Note: When you register, you will need to submit the full payment for the camp in order to secure you spot. If you register without paying and the camp fills, we will need to cancel your registration for someone on the wait list.

INTRODUCTION TO MECHATRONICS AND 3D PRINTING
SPU’s Introduction to Mechatronics and 3D Printing for Beginners is a one-week summer camp designed for rising ninth–12th graders (as of autumn 2022) interested in learning mechatronics systems and 3D printing techniques.
- Learn basic mechanical and electronics elements.
- Learn basic 3D modeling technique.
- Learn how to assemble and operate a 3D printer.
- Design your own 3D-printed project.
In this camp, you will learn about a mechatronics system and its components. You will also learn how to assemble and operate a 3D printer, which is a typical mechatronics system. You will be exposed to basic 3D printing and 3D modelling techniques. By the end of the camp, you will be able to create your own 3D-printed project with help from SPU students and professors. And you will have a chance to show your peers how creative you are!
Dates: June 27–July 1, 2022
Time: 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (day camp; no overnight accommodations; camp ends at noon on July 1)
Location: Seattle Pacific University campus
Cost: $875 (includes cost of 3D printer)

Cancellation: If you register for this camp before May 12 and need to cancel your registration, you must cancel by May 15 in order to receive a refund. If you register for this camp after May 12 and need to cancel your registration, you must cancel within 72 hours of registration in order to receive a refund. Cancellations received within the required timeframe will be granted a full refund, minus a $75 processing fee. Building a Lab on a Chip
SPU‘s Building a Lab on a Chip is a one-week summer camp designed for rising ninth–12th graders (as of autumn 2022). You will learn the basic techniques of “lab-on-a-chip” devices and make one for yourself using AutoCAD 2D design software and a laser cutter. Lab-on-a-chip devices are a recent development that has been revolutionary in bringing small electronics to biomedical research, healthcare devices, water testing, and environmental monitoring.
During this weeklong day camp, you will fabricate a basic microfluidic mixer chip with SPU students and professors. You’ll gain hands-on laboratory experience and get a chance to find your STEM area of interest. This camp would be appropriate for high schoolers interested in any of the following areas: electronics, biomedical engineering, CAD design software, laser cutters, the environment, and other STEM subjects.

3D Modeling for Robotics
SPU‘s 3-D Modeling for Robotics is a one-week summer camp designed for rising ninth–12th graders (as of autumn 2022). As a camp participant, you will learn how to use Solidworks software to design objects in 3-D, refine your ideas, and create your own CAD model that you can 3D-print. During this weeklong day camp, you will be instructed and guided by SPU students. You’ll also meet a professor from SPU's mechanical engineering department.
3D modeling is an important tool for mechanical design. It can help prototype your ideas, discover any errors, and communicate your vision to your team without your having to waste time and material on scrapped concepts. If you are a student involved in FIRST robotics or you are interested in the design process, this program is a great introduction to this valuable skill.
